People should be allowed to use force, including deadly force, to defend themselves, their family, others near them, and pets from an intruder or attacker, as well as stopping any form of intense violence, such as rape. They must, however, retreat if the defender is not in their home or vehicle.

If defending property, they must give the intruder reasonable notice before using force, but may use deadly force if they refuse to stop stealing, manipulating, or destroying property when given proper notice.
