Random notes on conspiracies:
One thing that’s important to understand about conspiracies is that the individual links within the conspiracy need to be proven just as much as the actual facts do. It’s one thing to say that two events happened, but it’s another thing to prove a connection between the two.
For example:
- “Democrats want to import illegals so they can either increase the electoral votes for presidents or vote directly in elections”
- The problem with this conspiracy is that the actual intent part of the theory is never shown or proven. Sure, it might be true to some extent that illegal vote in favor of Democrats and that Democrats generally are more ok with illegal immigration compared to Republicans, but the connection between these two truths needs to be demonstrated and intent needs to be shown. Just because a Democrat gets an advantage from illegal immigration doesn’t mean they are intentionally trying to get more illegal immigrations.
Another issue with conspiracies, although this mostly applies to larger ones, is the leaking of the conspiracy. Depending on the conspiracy, the likelihood that it won’t leak to any major press or foreign adversary is incredibly unlikely especially with all the leaks that have happened.
Examples of some leaks: - Edward Snowden: Mass surveillance of American citizens by the CIA and the NSA.
- Minecraft Discord server: Various classified documents, including ones about top secret invasion.
- Australia’s various war crimes within the Afghan war.
To think that the moon landing was fake, Donald Trump won 2020, the COVID-19 vaccine is dangerous, the Earth is flat, or various other conspiracies can be kept up for so long and on such a massive scale is extremely unlikely.
