Polarization
Social media allows users to pick and choose which communities they’d like to be apart of. This has given many of those who feel as though they’ve been left behind in society a place to feel accepted with similar interests and beliefs. Despite these positives, it also allows the creation of “echo chambers,” which prevents people from being exposed to beliefs or ideas that may contradict their own thoughts, preventing them from growing as a person and becoming more informed.(Barberá et al. 2015)
