A warrant is a writ permitting or directing someone to take a specific action, often issued by a judge. Warrants often allow law enforcement to make arrests, search a location, and seize property. They are generally required to have probable cause and have an affidavit detailing the reasons for the warrant. The power for law enforcement to use a warrant and to search and seize property is expressly laid out in the Fourth Amendment of the United States Constitution.(Wex Dictionary) (U.S. Const. amend.
