The Newburgh Conspiracy started when soldiers who fought in the Revolutionary War were not being paid for their actions or time, so they conspired to coup the federal government of the United States. George Washington was able to quell the threats by being sympathetic to their cause and approving their initial petition,(Roark, et al. 2019, p. 580) along with appealing to their honor and heroism during the Revolutionary War.(Roark, et al. 2019, p. 581)
