Overview

After years of the United States slowly adding new states into the Union, every other state added to the Union would be either a “Free” state or a “Slave” state, equalizing the power for both sides.source needed Once that power tilted, the southern states began to fear that the north would eventually try to take action to outlaw slavery across the country.source needed Eventually, when Abraham Lincoln was elected as President of the United States, coupled with the refusal to add new slave states to the Union, caused the first state to succeed from the Union in American history, South Carolina. This was followed by ten more states succeeding and two more in a quasi relationship with both the Union and the succeeded states. The succeeded slaves states would go on to create the Confederate States, a pro slavery version of the United States.

The Confederacy eventually lost the war to the United States, which saw the United States Constitution amended and the beginning of Reconstruction.
