Alexander Hamilton announces to the public a call for a new United States Constitution in the first Federalist Paper. Initially he is concerned whether or not people are really capable of governing themselves or are always destined to be ruled by by accident or force. He argues for a new government that greatly increases the power of the federal government with emphasis on a strong “UNION”. He claims that a strong federal government is crucial for the protection of the freedoms and liberties Americans enjoy. He discusses the issues of conflicting interests between people of different classes and states and how that needs to be taken into account for the new United States Constitution.(Hamilton, 1787)
