1865–1877

The Reconstruction era was a period of time after the United States Civil War where the United States occupied the states formerly in the Confederate States.

During this time, the United States, without consent from the states that succeeded, passed the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth amendments. These amendments, included but was not limited to, banning slavery, creating birthright citizenship, applying the rights of the federal Constitution to the states, creating wording for Insurrection and Rebellion, and banning voting discrimination based on race.source needed
