A new standard should be adopted that would classify certain drugs in certain ways, as recreationally possible, therefore making them legal like alcohol, and others as medical problems that incur legally enforced treatment:
- Does the drug have a high addictive rate after only one or two uses within one week? and;
- Does the drug or chemical substance impair the user to a detrimental or noticeable degree with a reasonably small amount ingested?
If a drug or chemical substance satisfies all the above criteria, then it should be declared illegal to sell, but not possess, and would require medical treatment and/or caretaking. No simple possession of drug paraphernalia with no intention to sell it should result in any criminal or civil charges or convictions.
If a drug or chemical substance does not satisfy all the criteria above, like for marijuana and LSD, then it should be treated the same manner as alcohol.
